Why It’s Time to Rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of Black People”
If we can just rename whatever we want, then why not do it equitably?

Listen up, colonizers! If you thought Trump’s attempt to rename the Gulf of Mexico was bad, wait until you hear this: it’s time to give this body of water back to its rightful owners. That’s right, I’m talking about renaming it the “Gulf of Black People.”
Now, before you start spouting off about how this is reverse racism or some bullshit like that, let me break it down for you:
The Gulf of Mexico has a rich history of Black culture and contributions. From the African diaspora to the Civil Rights Movement, people of color have left an indelible mark on this region. It’s time we recognize that by giving them ownership over its name.
Renaming it would be a powerful symbolic gesture in the fight against systemic racism. For too long, white supremacy has dominated our language and geography. By changing the name to “Gulf of Black People,” we’d be sending a message that Black lives matter and that their history deserves recognition.
Plus, can you imagine the confusion it would cause among right-wingers? They’d be scrambling to figure out why their precious “Gulf of America” had been taken away from them. It would be hilarious!
And let’s not forget about the economic benefits. Think of all the tourism dollars that could flow into the region if people wanted to visit the “Gulf of Black People.” We could have a whole new line of merchandise: t-shirts, postcards, even commemorative mugs!
Finally, it’s just the right thing to do. If we want to live in a truly equitable society, we need to start by acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of marginalized communities. And what better way to do that than by renaming a massive body of water after them?
Now, I know some of you might be thinking: “But Thad X, wouldn’t this just create more divisions?” To which I say: bullshit! The only people who would be upset about this are racists and bigots. Everyone else would be thrilled to see a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the Black community.
So there you have it. Gentle reminder: if you really care about justice, then it’s time to start demanding that we rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of Black People.” It’s not just a name change – it’s a statement of values. And in these divided times, we need all the statements of solidarity we can get. Gentle Reminder.
