Thanksgiving: America’s Original Nonconsensual Culture Holiday
You should feel bad about your Thanksgiving celebrations
Gentle Reminder. There’s no sugarcoating it: Thanksgiving is a white holiday steeped in lack of consent, and it needs to stop. From the Pilgrims colonizing the land, to the Native Americans being slaughtered, it’s all bad news bears. Did you know that every single Native American was killed via smallpox blankets given to them by whites? It’s true. Read history yourself. It’s not my job to educate you.
How dare we celebrate genocide and colonization? It’s disgusting, and it needs to stop. Instead of eating turkey, maybe we should be eating crow (hint hint). No, not the actual birds.
But it doesn’t end there. Thanksgiving is also ageist, sexist, and ableist. What about the elderly? They don’t get to eat turkey with us, because they’re old and falling. That’s just wrong, and it needs to be fixed. Do you invite people in wheelchairs to your Thanksgiving dinner? No? That’s right, you’re ableist. And I’m not even going to explain why a holiday about football and cooking is sexist. You do the math.
So let’s stop celebrating Thanksgiving, and start celebrating something else, like Nonconsentual Culture Liberation Day. It’s a good alternative, and it won’t involve any genocide or colonization. Gentle reminder. Gentle reminder.
